Position Description
The Real-Time Market Data Integrations team integrates applications which disseminate market data that comes into the firm. The focus is on system integration of highly available systems that can process large quantities of data with very low latency. These systems carry all real-time data such as stock prices, index values, option prices, and fixed income instruments.
Responsibilities will include:
Engineering Functions
- Manage or participate in the implementation and rollout of new services and products. Perform integration and regression tests, organize User Acceptance Testing (UAT) with end users and groups and provide feedback to development teams if applicable.
- Manage third party applications and technologies liaising with suppliers or vendors as appropriate.
- Design and create preventative maintenance functions including monitoring of logs, alarms, system performance, and capacity.
- Perform software decommission, installation, upgrades in accordance with Morgan Stanley’s Change Control Procedures.
- Become specialist on specific areas and provide consultancy and feedback to internal clients, developers and Project Managers.
Project Management
- Assist project managers with project management activities, including requirements gathering, planning, budgeting, resource planning and management, etc.
- Project manage the implementation and rollout of new services, upgrade of production services, system and applications. Client/Vendor/Supplier Management
- Attend periodic and ad-hoc client and vendor meetings and provide input where appropriate
- Document, implement and adhere to operational and technical standards, best practices, processes, and procedures.
- Assist with identifying and implementing areas for improvement within existing operational and technical processes and maintain related documentation
Support Functions
- Act as an escalation point for Production Management Level 2 support teams.
- Perform Level 3 support activities and root cause analysis using Morgan Stanley’s designated tools, processes and procedures.
- Escalate issues to development team and provide valuable feedback and analysis for break fixing.
Skills Required
- UNIX/Linux scripting: Candidates need to be proficient in navigating UNIX servers, have good knowledge of the majority of operational functions in UNIX and be able to read / write and maintain UNIX shell scripts.
- PERL scripting: Candidates should have some exposure to PERL as a scripting language as a minimum. The deeper the knowledge of PERL the better.
- Networking (e.g. TCP/IP): Additional technical skill on the networking side - understand the concepts of TCP/IP and UDP connectivity and data transfer. Knowledge of multicast is an advantage.
- UNIX/Linux operating systems: Candidates ought to understand UNIX concepts in order to e.g. perform resource monitoring, able to tune operating system parameters according to applications’ requirements.
- Problem solving skills: Must be able to tackle problems based on limited information, be able to seek out solutions and work around problems. They need to be able to do this in the short term for quick outage resolution as well as pro-active problem elimination.
- Inter-personal skills/communication - Good quality English speaking is essential as there is regular interaction with peer teams, internal clients, vendors and suppliers in any other region. These candidates must be able to communicate clearly and consisely to minimise misunderstandings and to ensure fast and accurate dissemination of information.
- Operational background: Candidates need to have worked and be experienced in support roles, used to performing a variety of roles and by dynamic in switching between them.
Skills Desired
Knowledge of financial markets, project management, SQL & databases is an advantage.
