"Telnet" usually refers to a terminal emulation
program that uses the
telnet protocol
to talk
to a server. It's been most popular for gaining shell access to remote
computers, especially over dial-up lines in the old days, but you can
also use it to submit commands to a web server if you can speak a
little of the web server's language: HTTP.
