Products manager
RESPONSIBILITIES
Ensures achievement of strategic revenue objectives for a specific product or product family. Plays proactive role in product planning and design to ensure the product is differentiated from competitors. Is involved with product throughout all stages of life cycle (conception, definition, development, release, and post-release activities). Operates without supervision. Drives product strategy, product planning and marketing execution.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Works closely with product development to realistically differentiate the product or product family:
• Develops customer-driven development plans, release schedules, and integrated solution for software products.
• Creates product requirements documents, defines problem statements and customer use cases.
• Translates customer/client needs into new feature enhancements and new services.
• Evaluates and prioritizes requests for product changes, enhancements, etc.
• Determines product objectives and release plans involving internal/external customers.
• Participates in solicitation and selection of customer participants in XP process.
• Focuses efforts on specific products or product families across all market segments.
Works closely with sales, marketing, business development and customer support:
• Works to competitively differentiate the product or product family and resolve issues and problems that will affect product's success.
• Is involved with pricing, promotions, designing demos, directing training courses and other related issues.
• Works closely with BizDev to identify opportunities in adjacent markets; build vs. buy analysis; evaluate potential partners with possibility of acquisition
• Maintains close relationship to customers for awareness of customers' needs and perspectives.
• Directs creation of launch materials and assists in new product release.
• Provides work assistance to other team members.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Work Experience
Bachelor's degree in business, sales, marketing or engineering. Advanced degree in business management, marketing, or planning desirable. Usually requires 5+ years of product management/marketing experience.
Specialized Knowledge and Skills
High level of knowledge of all products within a product family, company policies and practices. Thorough knowledge of long-range and operational planning techniques. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Able to operate as a matrix manager in coordinating people and technical resources from multiple areas of the company. |
